Inspiration

Why I created the SAS Foundation

My mother, Stefanie, was an amazing woman. She loved walks in the country, star gazing, art, and beautiful music. She was known to be an excellent gourmet cook, a devoted mother, and a talented business woman. Stefanie was involved in improving our local community, but she is best remembered for making everyone around her feel truly loved. Sadly, my mom was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2006. She fought the battle as long as she could, but she passed away on December 1,2008.

Four years later, I was walking around my college campus when I saw a flyer for a Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I realized that I had never seen flyers advocating awareness for small cell lung cancer or requesting donations to find a lung cancer cure. Confused, I began to do research and I discovered the limited amount of information publicized for SC lung cancer and the limited funding donated to the cause.

Lung Cancer is the leading type of cancer death among both men and women. I want more people to be informed about this disease so that we can raise money in defense of it. That is why I created the SAS foundation, in honor of my mother. The more backing researchers have, the more likely we are to find a cure. I believe that one day we can save the lives of lung cancer patients, and ensure more families can hold on to their loved ones.
